A Heart Resting in the One Is Never Thirsty

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
sorath mehlaa 5.
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਈ ॥
charan kamal si-o jaa kaa man leenaa say jan taripat aghaa-ee.
Those whose minds are attached to the lotus feet of the Lord - those humble beings are satisfied and fulfilled.
gun amol jis ridai na vasi-aa tay nar tarisan tarikhaa-ee. ||1||
But those, within whose hearts the priceless virtue does not abide - those men remain thirsty and unsatisfied. ||1||

In plain words

Those whose hearts rest on the beautiful feet of the One are full and content.

But when that priceless goodness never settles inside, a person stays thirsty, always reaching for more.

A heart resting in the One is full; a heart without it stays thirsty no matter how much it gets.
The deeper layer

A clean contrast. Charan kamal si-o jaa kaa man leenaa — hearts absorbed in the 'lotus feet' (nearness to the One) are tripat aghaa-ee, deeply satisfied. Without that gun amol, priceless virtue, within, a person remains trisan tarikhaa-ee, thirsty — the endless craving that no outer thing quiets. Contentment (Sorath's gift) is an inside condition.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that never quite satisfies, no matter how much of it you get?
