No Heart Is Too Shut Down to Be Reached

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
sorath mehlaa 5.
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਿਰਤਕ ਕਉ ਪਾਇਓ ਤਨਿ ਸਾਸਾ ਬਿਛੁਰਤ ਆਨਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
mirtak ka-o paa-i-o tan saasaa bichhurat aan milaa-i-aa.
He infuses the breath into the dead bodies, and he reunited the separated ones.
ਪਸੂ ਪਰੇਤ ਮੁਗਧ ਭਏ ਸ੍ਰੋਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

Even beasts, demons and fools become attentive listeners, when He sings the Praises of the Lord's Name. ||1||

In plain words

The One breathes life back into what seemed gone, and brings together those who had drifted far apart.

And when the song of the Name is sung, even the hardest, most shut-down hearts begin to lean in and listen.

No heart is too shut-down to be reached.
The deeper layer

This one says the One can bring life back and bring people back together. Mirtak ka-o paa-i-o tan saasaa — the One puts breath back into the lifeless. Bichhurat aan milaa-i-aa — and brings the separated back together. Think of a friend who drifted away after changing schools. Then one day you are laughing together again.

Then the verse shows how much can change. Pasoo parayt mugaDh bha-ay sarotay — even beasts, demons and fools become good listeners. These are the ones the world had given up on as wild or foolish. Sarotay means listeners who truly pay attention. When the Name is sung, they lean in and listen. No one is too far away to be reached. A heart that seems shut can still open.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever seen someone change in a way you did not think was possible?
