Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰੇ ॥
gun gaavhu pooran abhinaasee kaam kroDh bikh jaaray.
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Perfect, Imperishable Lord, and the poison of sexual desire and anger shall be burnt away.
ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੋ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
mahaa bikham agan ko saagar saaDhoo sang uDhaaray. ||1||
You shall cross over the awesome, arduous ocean of fire, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Sing the praises of the perfect, undying One, and the heat of craving and anger simply burns itself out.
Even the roughest, most churning sea of a life you can cross — carried by the company of those who love the One.
The rough seas of life are meant to be crossed together, not alone.
Gun gaavhu... kaam krodh bikh jaaray — praise is offered as a fire that consumes the "poison" of craving and anger; naming them as bikh (poison) frames them as illness, not sin. The agan ko saagar, the churning sea, is the difficulty of living; the crossing happens saadhoo sang — not alone, but in good company. Sorath keeps insisting: we are ferried across together.
