Verse 2 of 4

You Cannot Be Far From the One Already Everywhere

poorai gur mayti-o bharam anDhayraa.
The Perfect Guru has dispelled the darkness of doubt.
bhaj paraym bhagat parabh nayraa. rahaa-o.
Remember God with love and devotion; He is near at hand. ||Pause||
har har naam niDhaan ras pee-aa man tan rahay aghaa-ee.
Drink in the sublime essence, the treasure of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and your mind and body shall remain satisfied.
jat kat poor rahi-o parmaysar kat aavai kat jaa-ee. ||2||
The Transcendent Lord is totally permeating and pervading everywhere; where would He come from, and where would He go? ||2||

In plain words

The perfect teacher wiped away the dark fog of confusion — so love the One, stay close, because the One is right here, near at hand.

Drink in the sweetness of the Name like water, and heart and body are filled and content. The One is everywhere at once — so where would it ever have to come from, and where would it go?

You cannot be far from the One who is already everywhere.
The deeper layer

The Pause — bhaj praym bhagat prabh nayraa — insists the One is nayraa, near, not far off to be fetched. The verse ends with a quiet riddle: kat aavai kat jaa-ee — if the One fills every place already, coming and going make no sense. There is nowhere it is not. Aghaa-ee, satisfied, is what a heart tastes when it stops searching outside for what is already within.

A Question to Sit With

What would change if you believed the thing you are looking for is not far away at all?
