In plain words

Kind One, gentle with the small, healer of every hurt — without You there is no shelter I would rather have.

Lift me up out of this deep, churning sea; I have come, and I am staying, in Your care.

Asking for help is not weakness — it is coming home.
The deeper layer

This one says asking for help is not weakness; it is coming home. The shabad ends where it keeps coming back: to shelter.

Deen da-i-aal pooran dukh bhanjan — the perfect One, kind to the humble, breaker of pain. Kaadh layho sansaar saagar meh — lift me out of the world-ocean. This is not a wish to run away from life. It is a wish to be steadied in it, like a swimmer reaching for a friend's hand in rough waves.

Parabh sarnaa-ee means taking shelter in the One. It is the honest answer to the pride the shabad began with. Not "my strength is my own," but "I am held."

A Question to Sit With

When you feel like you are sinking, who or what do you reach for?
