Chant the Word of the Perfect Guru's Bani, and be ever in bliss, O mortal. ||1||

In plain words

The One has become my helper and friend, and singing together brings a peace that settles right into me.

So sing the words of the perfect teaching, and live in gladness, day after day.

Singing together can settle a whole heart.
The deeper layer

This one says: singing together can settle a whole heart.

Paarbarahm ho-aa sahaa-ee: the Highest One became my helper. Kathaa keertan sukh-daa-ee: talks and songs about the One bring peace. Kathaa means a talk or story about the Guru's words. Keertan means singing the One's praises together. It is one of the great joys of Sikhi, and here it is simply called peace-giving.

Then: gur pooray kee banee jap anad karahu nit. Repeat the perfect Guru's words, and stay glad every day. This is an everyday thing, not a once-a-year event. Like tuning a guitar, a life can be tuned to peace again and again.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a song or a group activity that makes you feel calm and connected?
