Verse 1 of 3

Whatever You Chase, the One Is Already Inside It

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
sorath mehlaa 5.
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਣਿ ਸਭੁ ਕਛੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਘਾਲ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
jaa kai simran sabh kachh paa-ee-ai birthee ghaal na jaa-ee.
Meditating in remembrance on Him, all things are obtained, and one's efforts shall not be in vain.
tis parabh ti-aag avar kat raachahu jo sabh meh rahi-aa samaa-ee. ||1||
Forsaking God, why do you attach yourself to another? He is contained in everything. ||1||

In plain words

Keep the One in mind, and everything worth having comes — no honest effort ever goes to waste.

Why turn away from the One to chase something else, when the One is already living inside it all?

Whatever you chase, the One is already inside it.
The deeper layer

Jaa kai simran sabh kachh paa-ee-ai birthee ghaal na jaa-ee — holding the One in mind, all is found, and no genuine effort is wasted. Then a gentle logic: tis prabh ti-aag avar kat raachahu — why leave the One to attach to some other thing, jo sabh meh rahi-aa samaa-ee — when that very One is already inside everything you might chase? Whatever you love, you are really loving the One hidden within it.

A Question to Sit With

What do you love most — and can you sense the wonder living inside it?
