In Good Company, Anxiety Melts Away

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
sorath mehlaa 5.
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਇਆ ਮਨਿ ਉਦਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਈ ॥
saaDhoo sang bha-i-aa man udam naam ratan jas gaa-ee.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, my mind became excited, and I sang the Praises of the jewel of the Naam.
ਮਿਟਿ ਗਈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਨੰਤਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥
mit ga-ee chintaa simar anantaa saagar tari-aa bhaa-ee. ||1||
My anxiety was dispelled, meditating in remembrance on the Infinite Lord; I have crossed over the world ocean, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the company of good people my heart woke up, and I sang the praise of the Name like a shining jewel.

My worry melted as I remembered the endless One, and I crossed the wide ocean of the world, my friends.

Good company can wake up a sleepy, worried heart.
The deeper layer

Man udam — the mind roused, energized. Naam ratan — the Name as a jewel. Mit ga-ee chintaa — anxiety erased by remembrance; Sorath returns again and again to worry easing.

A Question to Sit With

Who helps you feel excited about good things again?
