No Council Could Settle My Restless Heart

Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl, Third House, Chau-Padas:
ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਮਿਲਿ ਪੰਚਹੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
mil panchahu nahee sahsaa chukaa-i-aa.
Meeting with the council, my doubts were not dispelled.
ਸਿਕਦਾਰਹੁ ਨਹ ਪਤੀਆਇਆ ॥
sikdaarahu nah patee-aa-i-aa.
The chiefs did not give me satisfaction.
ਉਮਰਾਵਹੁ ਆਗੈ ਝੇਰਾ ॥
umraavahu aagai jhayraa.
I presented my dispute to the noblemen as well.
ਮਿਲਿ ਰਾਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੧॥
mil raajan raam nibayraa. ||1||
But it was only settled by meeting with the King, my Lord. ||1||

In plain words

I carried my worry from door to door, hoping someone could quiet it -- the council, the chiefs, the important people. None of them could.

The tangle inside me only came undone when I met the One who is King of everything.

Some knots come undone only when you bring them to the One.
The deeper layer

The pauri names the ordinary places a person takes their trouble -- panch (the council), sikdaar (the chiefs), umraav (the noblemen). None resolve it. Mil raajan raam nibayraa -- only meeting the true King settles the case.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you take your worries first -- and what would it be like to bring them to the deepest place?
