In plain words

Night and day I hold the Name in mind — the One who gives the soul and the very breath of life.

He hugs the one who loves Him close to His heart, the way a mother and father hold their child.

You are held the way a small child is held by loving parents.
The deeper layer

This one says you are held the way loving parents hold a small child.

An-din means night and day. All day and all night, Nanak holds the Name in mind.

Jee-a paraan kaa daataa: the One is the Giver of the soul and of the very breath of life. It is the closest gift of all. You carry it with you every second.

The last picture is the tenderest one: kanth laa-ay raakhai ji-o baarik pit maataa, "He hugs His own close, the way a mother and father hold their child." Kanth laa-ay means to hold close around the neck, a real hug. Grace feels like being scooped up by a parent after a bad dream. You are safe and held. Many shabads near this one are about a beloved child kept safe, and this one ends with that hug.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel most safely held by the people who love you?
