Keep the Name at Home in Your Heart

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
sorath mehlaa 5.
Sorat'h, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਇਹੁ ॥
hirdai naam vasaa-iho.
Enshrine the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within your heart;
ਘਰਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਧਿਆਇਹੁ ॥
ghar baithay guroo Dhi-aa-iho.
sitting within your own home, meditate on the Guru.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਚੁ ਕਹਿਆ ॥
gur poorai sach kahi-aa.
The Perfect Guru has spoken the Truth;
ਸੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਲਹਿਆ ॥੧॥
so sukh saachaa lahi-aa. ||1||
the True Peace is obtained only from the Lord. ||1||

In plain words

Let the Name live right inside your heart; you do not need to go anywhere -- sit at home and hold the One in mind.

The teaching that comes to you here is true, and the peace it brings is the real, lasting kind.

The One you are looking for can be met right where you already are.
The deeper layer

Ghar baithay guroo dhi-aa-iho -- you can turn toward the teaching sitting in your own home; the sacred is not somewhere far away. So sukh saachaa -- the peace that is sach (real, lasting) rather than the kind that washes off.

A Question to Sit With

What is a quiet moment at home where you could hold something you love in mind?
