Sikhism·Raag Sorath·Shabad 88
Verse 3 of 4

He Does Not Count My Faults

parabh apnaa birad samaari-aa.
God confirmed His loving nature;
hamraa gun avgun na beechaari-aa.
He did not take my merits or demerits into account.
gur kaa sabad bha-i-o saakhee.
The Word of the Guru's Shabad has become manifest,
tin saglee laaj raakhee. ||3||
and through it, my honor was totally preserved. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

It is simply His nature to love; He did not sit and count my good points and bad points.

The teaching became clear and living in me, and it kept my honor whole.

The deepest kind of love does not keep a scorecard of your mistakes.
The deeper layer

Prabh apnaa birad samaari-aa -- birad is the One's inborn nature, His way of always being loving. Gun avgun na beechaari-aa -- He did not weigh merits against faults; grace does not keep a ledger.

A Question to Sit With

Who loves you without keeping a list of your mistakes -- and how does that feel?
