Sikhism·Raag Sorath·Shabad 88
Verse 2 of 4

The Name Is the Medicine That Heals

parmaysar aap ho-aa rakhvaalaa.
The Transcendent Lord Himself has become my Protector.
saaNt sahj sukh khin meh upjay man ho-aa sadaa sukhaalaa. rahaa-o.
Tranquility, intuitive peace and poise welled up in an instant, and my mind was comforted forever. ||Pause||
har har naam dee-o daaroo.
The Lord, Har, Har, gave me the medicine of His Name,
tin saglaa rog bidaaroo.
which has cured all disease.
apnee kirpaa Dhaaree.
He extended His Mercy to me,
tin saglee baat savaaree. ||2||
and resolved all these affairs. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One became my guard, and in a single moment a deep quiet rose up and settled my mind for good.

He handed me the Name like a medicine, and it healed every sickness and set my whole life right.

Some of the best medicine is the quiet you let settle over a worried mind.
The deeper layer

The Rahau plus verse: har har naam dee-o daaroo -- the Name given as daaroo, medicine. Like Raag Todee, Sorath can hold the Name as something that heals an anxious, feverish mind, not only an idea to admire.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your mind grow calm when it is racing or worried?
