Singing the Sweet Word, Bathed in Good Company

har amrit banee gaavai.
He sings the Ambrosial Word of the Guru's Bani,
saaDhaa kee Dhooree naavai.
and bathes in the dust of the feet of the Holy.
apunaa naam aapay dee-aa.
He Himself bestows His Name.
parabh karanhaar rakh lee-aa. ||3||
God, the Creator, saves us. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I sing the sweet, life-giving word and sit humbly among the good-hearted.

He gave me His own Name as a gift, and the Maker keeps me safe.

There is sweetness in placing yourself among good people, not above them.
The deeper layer

Amrit banee -- the ambrosial, life-giving word. Saadhaa kee dhooree naavai -- bathing in the dust of the feet of the holy, an image of deep humility, valuing others above one's own pride.

A Question to Sit With

What would it look like to learn from someone instead of trying to impress them?
