In plain words

The One blessed everyone with calm and gladness.

Holding the teaching close, everything is kept safe and whole.

In good company, the dust of the heart washes off. The One became my friend and helper.

Nanak holds the Name in mind, and has found the First One, the source of all.

To be kept 'safe and sound' is to arrive whole, with nothing important lost.
The deeper layer

This one says everything is kept safe and sound, with nothing important lost.

The rahaa-o, the "pause" line, is the center of the shabad: sahee salaamat sabh thok ubaaray, "everything is carried through safe and sound." It comes from keeping the Guru's word in mind, gur kaa sabad veechaaray.

Saadhsang means the company of good, holy people. There, mal laathee, the dirt washes off. Like a good team that lifts you up, good company clears away the gloom.

The shabad ends with aad purakh, the First Being, the source of everything. Nanak holds the Name in mind and finds the One who was there before anything began. So the shabad closes with being kept whole and finding where everything comes from.

A Question to Sit With

What are the things in your life you most want to keep safe and whole?
