In plain words

Bathing where the good-hearted gather, the old marks lift right off.

You come away clean and new -- this washing is a gift the teaching gives.

Becoming clean and new is a gift you receive, not a prize you win.
The deeper layer

This one says becoming clean and new is a gift you receive, not a prize you win.

Raamdaas sarovar naatay: "bathing in the pool of Ram Das." A sarovar is a sacred pool. This is the pool at Amritsar that Guru Ram Das began. On a deeper level, the pool is the gathering of good people, where the heart gets washed.

Sabh utray paap kamaatay: every wrong we have done is washed away. Paap means wrongdoing. Think of coming home muddy from the park and stepping into a warm bath. The mud just lifts off.

And the last line: gur poorai keenay daanaa. Daan means a gift. The cleansing is given freely, not earned.

A Question to Sit With

When has being around good people left you feeling fresher, lighter, more yourself?
