You're Fully Known; Bring Your Prayer Among the Good

ਹਵਾਲ ਮਾਲੂਮੁ ਕਰਦੰ ਪਾਕ ਅਲਾਹ ॥
havaal maaloom kardaN paak alaah.
The Pure Lord God knows your condition.
ਬੁਗੋ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ਪੇਸਿ ਦਰਵੇਸ ਬੰਦਾਹ ॥੪॥੧॥
bugo naanak ardaas pays darvays bandaah. ||4||1||
O Nanak, recite your prayer to the holy people. ||4||1||

In plain words

The pure One knows exactly what state you are in.

Nanak says: offer your prayer among the holy, the good people.

You are fully known, nothing to hide — and the way forward is simply to bring your prayer among good people.
The deeper layer

After the warning, the ending is gentle and hopeful.

Havaal maaloom — your condition is known. Paak alaah, the Pure God, knows exactly how you are. Alaah is the Arabic name for God. Nothing about you is hidden, and that is a comfort. You don't have to pretend.

Think of a best friend who can tell how your day went just by looking at you. You don't need to act fine around them.

The advice is simple: bring your prayer to the darvays, the holy people. Be among the good. The shabad ends not in fear but with an open door. You are known, and there is a place to bring your prayer.

A Question to Sit With

Is there comfort in being fully known? Where is the 'good company' you could bring your honest prayer to?
