Forever and ever, meditate, O Nanak, on the One. ||1||

In plain words

There is no other but You, One.

You are the Maker; whatever You do, that alone happens. You are the strength, and You are the mind's support. Nanak says: forever and ever, hold the One in mind.

When there is truly no other — no rival power to fear — the mind has exactly one place to rest, and it is everything.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan opens with the raag's non-dual bedrock: "There is no other than You." Everything that happens is the One's doing, and the One is both "the strength" and "the support of the mind." When there is truly no other — no rival power, no second source — the mind has exactly one place to rest. This is the ground of all the raag's peace: not many supports to juggle, but one, and it is everything.

A Question to Sit With

What would it settle in you to believe there's one reality holding everything, with no rival for it to fear?
