The One makes even the most tangled-up person clean again — it's the soul in the soul, the breath in the breath, the giver of peace and honor, the one who knows every heart from the inside. My whole mind loves it.
Beautiful and wise, quick and all-knowing, it lives right inside its people's hearts while they sing its praise. Its form is spotless; there's nothing to compare it to. And on the field of our actions, whatever we plant is what we'll eat.
A shabad of pure praise that then lands, in its last line, on responsibility: "upon the field of actions and karma, whatever one plants, one eats." After celebrating the One as the purifier of sinners and the knower of hearts, Guru Arjan grounds it all in a simple farming truth — your life is a field, and it grows what you sow. This isn't a threat; it's an empowerment. The same One who purifies also honors your agency: the seeds you plant in your days (kindness or cruelty, attention or forgetting) are the harvest you'll live inside.
What kinds of 'seeds' are you planting with how you act each day? What harvest are they growing?
