Poh brings the deep cold, when snow settles and even the trees and fields grow quiet and still.
Why have You not come? I keep You in my mind, in my body and on my lips.
You are flowing through my mind and body, the Life of the whole world; through the Guru's Word, I enjoy Your love.
Your Light shines inside every living thing — everything hatched from an egg, born from a womb, sprung from warmth, or pushed up from the earth — one glow inside every single heart.
Show me Your face, kind and gentle Giver; grant me understanding, so I find my way home.
Nanak says: the Beloved delights in the heart that loves the One with joy.
Poh (December-January) is the coldest month. The world seems frozen and the Beloved absent, yet the One is already pervading mind and body as jagjeevan, the Life of the world. The fourfold list of life — andaj, jeraj, setaj, utbhuj (egg-born, womb-born, warmth-born, earth-sprung) — places one jot (Light) in every heart: Ik Onkar, oneness alive in all creation. Darshan and mat (understanding) are sought as the way home.
Where have you noticed the same spark of life in a creature very different from you?
