Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
By the third watch, it is easy to fall into a heavy sleep — not tired eyes, but a sleepy heart.
The things I love — family, my own comforts, the whole busy world — are precious. But if I grip them so tightly that I forget the One who gave them, I get tangled, like a bird that snaps at bait and finds itself caught.
When I hold the Name — keeping the One in mind — that tangle loosens and peace comes. Nothing love-filled is ever really lost.
The third watch is the deepest sleep — a sleepy heart, not sleepy eyes. Maya here is not “the world is bad,” but the tangle that comes from gripping good things so tightly that we forget their Source. Holding the Name loosens the grip.
Can you love something a lot without letting it take over your whole mind?
