Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
One day the knot is quietly untied and it is time to rise and move on. This happens to everyone — like a field of grain that ripens and is gathered in when its season is complete.
Every moment of a life counts; the good we do and the harm we do both leave their mark. So it is worth living each moment awake.
And here is the comfort: those who joined their hearts to the Word are gathered home like old friends. This is simply how existence is made.
The closing stanza. The “knot untied” and “crop cut down” are the season’s completion coming to everyone. The source’s ledger of good and bad is kept, but the note it ends on is homecoming: those joined to the Word are gathered like friends. “This is the way God made it” — hukam, the flow of existence.
If every moment counts, how would you want to spend this one?
