Each Good Deed Is a Bead on a Thread

ਕਰਣੀ ਕਾਮਣ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਜੇ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਗਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
karnee kaaman jay thee-ai jay man Dhaagaa ho-ay.
If the soul-bride does good deeds, and strings them on the thread of her mind,
ਮਾਣਕੁ ਮੁਲਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਲੀਜੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਪਰੋਇ ॥੨॥
maanak mul na paa-ee-ai leejai chit paro-ay. ||2||
she obtains the jewel, which cannot be purchased for any price, strung upon the thread of her consciousness. ||2||

In plain words

Do good things, day by day. Let your mind be the thread, and string them on like beads.

Then you will hold a jewel so precious that no money could ever buy it.

Each good thing you do is like a bead on a thread — string enough of them and you hold a priceless treasure.
The deeper layer

Every good thing you do is like a bead. Put them together, and you get something priceless.

Karnee kaaman: let good deeds be your beauty. Jay man dhaagaa ho-ay: and let your mind be the thread. The soul-bride strings her good actions one by one, like beads on a necklace. A steady, remembering mind holds them all together.

Think of a friendship bracelet you make one bead at a time. One bead looks small. A whole string of them is something you treasure. Maanak mul na paa-ee-ai: that jewel cannot be bought for any price. Goodness gathered patiently becomes a treasure inside you that money could never buy.

A Question to Sit With

What good 'bead' could you add to your thread today?
