The One Is the Best Company There Is

ਮੇਰਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਰੀਸਾਲੂ ਕੀ ਧਨ ਅਵਰਾ ਰਾਵੇ ਜੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mayraa kant reesaaloo kee Dhan avraa raavay jee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My Husband Lord is loving and playful; why should the soul-bride enjoy anyone else? ||1||Pause||

In plain words

The One who loves you is warm and playful and delightful — so why would your heart go chasing after lesser things?

The One is warm and playful and delightful — the best company there is.
The deeper layer

This is the rahao line, the "pause." It is the center of the whole shabad (a shabad is one hymn).

Mayraa kant reesaaloo: my Beloved is loving, playful, and full of delight. Kee dhan avraa raavay jee: so why would the soul-bride go looking for anyone else?

This is a joyful picture of the One. Not stern or scary, but warm and fun to be with. Think of the friend you most love spending a Saturday with. You do not need to be told to choose them. You just want to. The line says goodness works the same way. It is less a duty and more choosing the best company there is.

A Question to Sit With

What makes someone so delightful that you'd rather be with them than anywhere else?
