The Good You Long For Is Already Inside You

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਸਹਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਥੋਰਾ ॥
ghat ghat vaseh jaaneh thoraa.
He dwells in each and every heart, but only a few know this.
ਹੈ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਜਣੁ ਪਰਦਾ ਤੋਰਾ ॥
hai ko-ee saajan pardaa toraa.
Is there any friend who can rip apart the screen of separation?
ਕਰਉ ਜਤਨ ਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
kara-o jatan jay ho-ay miharvaanaa.
I can only make the effort, if the Lord is merciful to me.
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਦੇਈ ਜੀਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
taa ka-o day-ee jee-o kurbaanaa. ||3||
I sacrifice my body and soul to Him. ||3||

In plain words

The One lives in every single heart — though only a few really notice.

Is there a friend who can help lift the thin screen that seems to keep us apart?

I can only do my small part; the rest is a kindness given to me.

And for that, I'd give my whole self.

The good you long for is already inside you — sometimes you just need help lifting the thin curtain to see it.
The deeper layer

The turn: "He dwells in each and every heart, but only a few know this." The One is already within — the barrier is a thin screen (pardaa) of not-noticing. "Is there any friend who can rip apart the screen of separation?" — we need help to see what's already there. "I can only make the effort, if the Lord is merciful" — our part is small, grace does the rest. For a child: the good you long for is already inside you and everyone; sometimes you just need a friend to help lift the thin curtain so you can see it.

A Question to Sit With

Who is a friend who helps you 'see' good things you'd otherwise miss?
