Sikhism·Raag Wadahans·Shabad 25
Verse 8 of 9

Peace Is Right There in the Good, Waiting

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਲੇ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਗੇ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
manmukh bhoolay bikh lagay ahilaa janam gavaa-i-aa.
The self-willed manmukhs are deluded; attached to corruption, they waste away their lives in vain.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੭॥
har kaa naam sadaa sukh saagar saachaa sabad na bhaa-i-aa. ||7||
The Name of the Lord is forever an ocean of peace, but the manmukhs do not love the Word of the Shabad. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When we forget what matters, we can drift and let a precious life slip by.

Real peace is always right there in the good — we just have to turn toward it.

It's easy to drift — but peace is always right there in the good, waiting for you to turn toward it.
The deeper layer

The contrast verse: the manmukh (forgetful, self-turned) "wastes life in vain," not loving the Shabad. The qMonk voice keeps this gentle — drifting and letting the precious life (P6) slip by — and points to the ever-available remedy: "the Name is forever an ocean of peace," always right there to turn toward. For a child: it's easy to drift, but peace is always right there in the good, waiting for you to turn toward it.

A Question to Sit With

When you've drifted from what matters, what helps you turn back toward it?
