Your true Name is always sweet to me; it lifts my pain and fills me with peace.
All kinds of beings sing about You — and it gladdens You.
But when we get dazzled by shiny things, we forget, and let a precious life slip by.
"Your Name is True, and ever pleasing to my mind; my pains are dispelled." Everyone — "angels, mortals, silent sages" — sings of the One. The shadow-note (those "enticed by Maya" who "waste their lives") is rendered gently as the familiar drift of forgetting when we're dazzled. The refrain-structure of this Chhant-like shabad returns each verse to its sweet first line. For a child: what's good and true is always sweet and eases pain — it's only when we get dazzled that we forget it.
What 'shiny things' sometimes dazzle you into forgetting what really matters?
