Verse 3 of 4

Hungry While the Treasure Sits at Home

jinee darsan jinee darsan satgur purakh na paa-i-aa raam.
Those who have not obtained the Blessed Vision, the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the True Guru, the Almighty Lord God,
tin nihfal tin nihfal janam sabh baritha gavaa-i-aa raam.
they have fruitlessly, fruitlessly wasted their whole lives in vain.
nihfal janam tin baritha gavaa-i-aa tay saakat mu-ay mar jhooray.
They have wasted away their whole lives in vain; those faithless cynics die a regretful death.
ghar hodai ratan padaarath bhookhay bhaagheen har dooray.
They have the jewel-treasure in their own homes, but still, they are hungry; those unlucky wretches are far away from the Lord.
har har tin kaa daras na karee-ahu jinee har har naam na Dhi-aa-i-aa.
O Lord, please, let me not see those who do not meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har,
jinee darsan jinee darsan satgur purakh na paa-i-aa. ||3||
and who have not obtained the Blessed Vision, the Blessed Vision of the Darshan of the True Guru, the Almighty Lord God. ||3||

In plain words

Some hearts haven't yet tasted real wisdom, and a precious life can slip past.

They have the treasure right in their own homes, yet still feel hungry — because they haven't looked inside.

But the treasure is always there, waiting to be found.

Some people feel hungry inside while the treasure sits right in their own home — they just haven't looked within yet.
The deeper layer

The verse laments those who miss the treasure: "they have the jewel-treasure in their own homes, but still they are hungry." The most poignant line — the treasure is right there at home (inside them), yet they starve, having never looked in. The qMonk voice softens the harsh "faithless cynics die a regretful death" and "let me not see them," keeping the gentle point: the treasure is within, always waiting to be found. For a child: some people feel hungry inside while the treasure sits right in their own home — because they haven't looked within yet.

A Question to Sit With

How can someone have something wonderful nearby and not realize it? How do you notice yours?
