Turning Toward Good Is for Absolutely Everyone

jap har har jap har har naam mayrai man bhaa-i-aa raam.
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is so pleasing to my mind.
mukh gurmukh mukh gurmukh jap sabh rog gavaa-i-aa raam.
Speaking as Gurmukh, speaking as Gurmukh, chanting the Naam, all disease is eradicated.
gurmukh jap sabh rog gavaa-i-aa arogat bha-ay sareeraa.
As Gurmukh, chanting the Naam, all disease is eradicated, and the body becomes free of disease.
an-din sahj samaaDh har laagee har japi-aa gahir gambheeraa.
Night and day, one remains absorbed in the Perfect Poise of Samaadhi; meditate on the Name of the Lord, the inaccessible and unfathomable Lord.
jaat ajaat naam jin Dhi-aa-i-aa tin param padaarath paa-i-aa.
Whether of high or low social status, one who meditates on the Naam obtains the supreme treasure.
jap har har jap har har naam mayrai man bhaa-i-aa. ||3||
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is pleasing to my mind. ||3||

In plain words

Keeping the good in mind is so pleasing, and it clears away trouble.

Speaking and living what's good brings a real, whole-hearted health.

And it's for everyone — high or low, anyone who turns toward the good finds the treasure.

Turning toward the good is for absolutely everyone — no matter who you are or where you come from.
The deeper layer

The verse offers healing and, importantly, equality: "whether of high or low social status, one who meditates on the Naam obtains the supreme treasure." The good is available to everyone, regardless of rank — a cornerstone Sikh teaching. Remembrance brings a wholeness "night and day." For a child: turning toward the good is for absolutely everyone, no matter who you are.

A Question to Sit With

Why does it matter that the best things are open to everyone, not just some people?
