Wadahans, Third Mehl:
ਨਦਰੀ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਨਦਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
nadree satgur sayvee-ai nadree sayvaa ho-ay.
By His Grace, one serves the True Guru; by His Grace, service is performed.
ਨਦਰੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਆਵੈ ਨਦਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
nadree ih man vas aavai nadree man nirmal ho-ay. ||1||
By His grace, this mind is controlled, and by His Grace, it becomes pure. ||1||

Even our turning toward what's good is helped along by a kindness bigger than us.
That same kindness quietly steadies and cleans the heart.
Even your turning toward good is helped by a kindness bigger than you — you're not doing it all alone.
This shabad rings the word nadaree — "by His Grace" — like a bell through every line. Serving the Guru, the mind being controlled, becoming pure — all of it is "by His Grace." Guru Amar Das gently dismantles spiritual pride: even our good turning is grace-assisted. It's a humbling and freeing thought — you're not doing it all alone by sheer willpower; a larger kindness is at work in you.
A Question to Sit With
When you managed to do something hard and good, what or who helped you along?
