Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You are the true, steady One — please fill me with Your love.
You made the whole world, and You give both its hard days and its happy ones.
You made every person, and You hold up and support all living things.
Life has hard days and happy days. The same caring One holds us through both.
This is the rahao line, the "pause," the center of the song. It is a simple prayer. Sachrhaa saahib sach too: True Master, You are True. Sachrhaa deh pi-aaro: please give me Your love.
Tudh sirjee maydnee: You made the whole world. Dukh sukh dayvanhaaro: You give both pain and joy. The Guru is honest here. Life holds both kinds of days.
Deh jee-aa aadhaaro: You hold up and support every living being. Think of a parent's hand on a bike seat. It stays there on the smooth path and on the bumpy one. The comfort is that both kinds of days come from the same One who also holds us up through them.
Who holds you up on both your hard days and your happy ones?
