The Secret of Closeness: Let Go of Self-Importance

jinee aapnaa kant pachhaani-aa ha-o tin poochha-o santaa jaa-ay.
Those who have realized their Husband Lord - I go and ask those Saints about Him.
aap chhod sayvaa karee pir sachrhaa milai sahj subhaa-ay.
Renouncing ego, I serve them; thus I meet my True Husband Lord, with intuitive ease.
pir sachaa milai aa-ay saach kamaa-ay saach sabad Dhan raatee.
The True Husband Lord comes to meet the soul-bride who practices Truth, and is imbued with the True Word of the Shabad.
kaday na raaNd sadaa sohagan antar sahj samaaDhee.
She shall never become a widow; she shall always be a happy bride. Deep within herself, she dwells in the celestial bliss of Samaadhi.
pir rahi-aa bharpooray vaykh hadooray rang maanay sahj subhaa-ay.
Her Husband Lord is fully pervading everywhere; beholding Him ever-present, she enjoys His Love, with intuitive ease.

In plain words

I go and ask the people who've found real closeness how they did it.

Setting down my self-importance, I learn from them, and find that closeness too.

A heart like that is never really widowed — it stays glad, feeling the good ever-present.

The people who've found real closeness say the secret is letting go of self-importance — then the good feels ever-present.
The deeper layer

The beloved device again: "I go and ask those Saints" who have found the Beloved. Their way is "renouncing ego," and then one meets the Beloved "with intuitive ease" (sahaj). And the reversal of the mourning theme once more: "she shall never become a widow; she shall always be a happy bride," "beholding Him ever-present." The One is here, so the separation is only in forgetting. For a child: the people who've found real closeness will tell you the secret is letting go of self-importance — and then the good feels ever-present.

A Question to Sit With

Who could you 'go and ask' about how to feel close to what's good?
