Verse 4 of 6

It's a Kind Wise Heart That Helps the World

ਕਿਸਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਵਤਾਰੀ ਰੂਧਾ ਕਿਤੁ ਲਗਿ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
kisan sadaa avtaaree rooDhaa kit lag tarai sansaaraa.
Vishnu is always busy reincarnating himself - who will save the world?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
gurmukh gi-aan ratay jug antar chookai moh gubaaraa. ||3||
The Gurmukhs are imbued with spiritual wisdom in this age; they are rid of the darkness of emotional attachment. ||3||

In plain words

Even the busiest, most important-seeming efforts can't do what a turned-toward-the-good heart does.

A heart lit with a little wisdom is freed from the fog of clinging.

It's not being the busiest or most impressive that helps the world — it's a clear, kind, wise heart.
The deeper layer

The verse continues: even Vishnu, "always busy reincarnating himself" — endlessly active — leaves the question "who will save the world?" The answer isn't more cosmic busyness but the gurmukh, "imbued with spiritual wisdom," "rid of the darkness of emotional attachment." The point: it's not grand activity but a heart turned toward the good and freed of clinging that actually helps. For a child: it's not being the busiest or most impressive that makes a difference — it's a clear, kind heart.

A Question to Sit With

What matters more — doing lots of impressive things, or doing things with a kind heart?
