The mortal does not remember the Lord, even for a moment; he is blinded by the wine of Maya.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਪਰਤ ਤਾਹਿ ਜਮ ਫੰਧ ॥੨੬॥
kaho naanak bin har bhajan parat taahi jam fanDh. ||26||
Says Nanak, without meditating on the Lord, he is caught by the noose of Death. ||26||

In plain words

A person does not remember the One even a little, blinded by the wine of Maya, the glitter of money and things.

Nanak says: without remembering the One, that person is caught in the noose of death.

The glitter of things can blind; remembering the One keeps your eyes open.
The deeper layer

The glitter of things can blind a person to the One, and that blindness is a trap.

mad maa-i-aa kai anDh — blinded by the mad, the wine, of Maya, the glitter of money and things. A person forgets the One, even for a moment. It is like getting dizzy on a spinning ride. The world blurs.

The last line says that without singing the One's praise, a person is caught in jam fanDh, the noose of death: a life tangled up and losing its footing. Turning back to the One is the way out. A later salok repeats this one almost word for word, so we are sure to hear it.

A Question to Sit With

What sparkly thing sometimes makes you lose your footing? What helps you steady again?
