Sikhism·Salok Mahalla 9·The Closing Saloks
Verse 29 of 57

Salok Mehlaa 9, Salok 29 — no distance between you and the One

ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਭਜੈ ਰੂਪ ਰਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
jo paraanee nis din bhajai roop raam tih jaan.
That mortal who meditates and vibrates upon the Lord night and day - know him to be the embodiment of the Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੀ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨੯॥
har jan har antar nahee naanak saachee maan. ||29||
There is no difference between the Lord and the humble servant of the Lord; O Nanak, know this as true. ||29||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The person who remembers the One night and day — know that person as the very form of the Lord.

Between the One and the One's humble servant there is no difference. Nanak says: know this as true.

Remember the One day and night, and no distance is left between you.
The deeper layer

Whoever remembers the One day and night becomes one with the One.

Jo paraanee nis din bhajai: the person who remembers night and day. Roop raam tih jaan: know that person as the form of the One. Like a mirror turned to the sun, they shine with the light they face.

Har jan har antar nahee: there is no difference between the One and the One's servant. Loving deeply, the servant becomes one with what they love. Saachee maan: know this as true.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever loved something so much you felt part of it? What was that like?
