Verse 43 of 57
Salok Mehlaa 9, Salok 43 — no gap between the heart and the One
ਜਿਹ ਘਟਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਸੋ ਨਰੁ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਜਾਨੁ ॥
jih ghat simran raam ko so nar muktaa jaan.
That person, who meditates in remembrance on the Lord in his heart, is liberated - know this well.
ਤਿਹਿ ਨਰ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੀ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੪੩॥
tihi nar har antar nahee naanak saachee maan. ||43||
There is no difference between that person and the Lord: O Nanak, accept this as the Truth. ||43||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The person who remembers the One in their heart is free — know this.
Between that person and the One there is no difference. Nanak says: accept this as true.
Keep the One warm in your heart and the gap between you quietly closes.
Remembering the One in the heart sets a person free and joins them to the One.
Jih ghat simran raam ko: the one in whose heart the One is remembered. So nar muktaa jaan: know that person as free. That freedom can begin now, in this life.
Tihi nar har antar nahee: there is no difference between that person and the One. An earlier salok says the same thing, and here too comes saachee maan: accept it as true.

What does it feel like to hold someone you love in your heart even when they are away?
