Nanak: everything is in Your hands, Lord; You are my Helper and Support. ||54||

In plain words

My strength has come back, the chains are broken, and now everything is possible.

Nanak says: everything is in Your hands, Lord. You alone are my help.

When strength returns and the chains fall away, remember whose steadiness carried you.
The deeper layer

With the One's help, strength comes back and chains fall away.

Bal ho-aa banDhan chhutay: strength has returned, the chains are broken. Sabh kichh hot upaa-ay: now everything can be done. This salok answers the one before it, where all strength was gone. Many in the Sikh tradition remember it as Guru Gobind Singh's reply to his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, though the verse itself signs as Nanak.

Sabh kichh tumrai haath mai: everything is in Your hands. Tum hee hot sahaa-ay: You alone are the help. The relief is credited to the One, with gratitude.

A Question to Sit With

After a hard time passes, do you remember to say thank you? To whom, or to what?
