He seeks no advice when He builds. He seeks no advice when He destroys.
He seeks no advice while giving or taking. He alone knows His Creative Power.
He beholds all in His Vision. He gives to those with whom He is pleased.
This one says the One does not need anyone's advice.
Puchh na saajay puchh na dhaahay: "He asks no one when He builds, and asks no one when He takes down." In Guru Nanak's time, kings had courts full of advisers. The One needs no advisers at all.
This is not showing off. The One is the only one who knows everything and sees every result. Who could give Him advice? A small child cannot tell the baker how to bake the whole city's bread.
Then comes a gentle line: jai bhaavai tai day-ay, "He gives to those who please Him." The giving comes from a real relationship. It is not random. So a good question to think about is this: what pleases the One? The shabad keeps pointing toward love and truth.
What does it take to genuinely please someone you deeply respect — not to impress them, but to actually be in their pleasure? What is the difference?
