Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The True Lord is the great farmer — he knows what he's doing. First, he prepares the ground. Then he plants the seed of the True Name.
The nine treasures appear — and the fruit that grows brings both worlds to life.
You don't make the seed. You don't make the rain. But you can prepare the ground. That is your part.
This pauri introduces the farming metaphor that will reappear in Shabad 25 and Shabad 26. Here, the divine is the farmer — which inverts the common mystical framing where the seeker is the farmer. In this reading, the seeker is the field.
The nine treasures (nav nidhi) are a traditional enumeration of forms of divine wealth. They grow in the prepared field — the soul that has cleared the weeds of duality and opened itself to the seed of the Name.
What does it mean to be 'prepared' for something good to happen in your life? What does preparing actually look like for you?
