Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Those who take pleasure in God's Will — remove doubt from within.
Know Him as the True Guru — who unites all with the Lord.
Jo pritam maan-ay, so tis-s kaa priaa — those who take pleasure in (maan-ay — accept with love, find pleasant) the Lord (pritam), are dear to Him (so tis-s kaa priaa). The reciprocal: the soul that takes pleasure in the Lord's Will becomes the one that is dear to the Lord. Pleasure in the divine Will — not grim acceptance, not stoic endurance, but genuine pleasure (priaa — beloved, dear, pleasurable).
Bhramu khovai, giaanu paa-ay — they remove doubt (bhramu khovai) and obtain understanding (giaanu paa-ay). The removal of doubt (bhram) is the internal work that Guru-meeting accomplishes. The doubt: is the Lord real? Does the path lead somewhere? Is the devotion genuine? When the Guru unites the soul with the Lord, the doubt has no more foundation. Not because an argument was won, but because the experience of union makes the doubt irrelevant.
So satgur so-ay, jo Aap milaavai — He is the True Guru who Himself unites (others with the Lord). The definition of the True Guru in this pauri: the one who actually, actively causes union. Not the one who teaches about union, or who inspires desire for union, but the one who milaa-avai — effects the union itself.
What is the difference between accepting something reluctantly and taking genuine pleasure in it? Is there something difficult in your life you have moved from grudging acceptance to genuine pleasure?
