In plain words

I am a sacrifice to the True Guru.

Meeting Him, the supreme status is obtained.

Even the angelic beings and the silent sages long for the True Guru — and it is the True Guru who has given me this understanding.

Meeting the True Guru, the supreme status is obtained — even the angels and perfected sages long for what the Guru alone can give.
The deeper layer

Satgur kurbaan jaa-ee-ai, milai param pad-u paa-i-aa — I am a sacrifice to the True Guru; meeting Him, the supreme state (param pad-u — the highest station, ultimate status) is obtained. The param pad — the supreme status — is the same destination pointed to by all the seekers in Shabad 126: the Yogis, the ascetics, the devotees. What none of their methods guarantees is received through meeting the True Guru.

Dev taai sidh londay, satgur bujhaa-ay — even the angels (dev) and the perfected siddhs (sidh) long for (londay — yearn for, desire) this; the True Guru gives this understanding. The beings who by definition are more spiritually advanced than ordinary humans — the angels and perfected yogis — still long for what meeting the True Guru provides. The Guru's gift is not a step on the spiritual ladder; it is outside the ladder entirely.

Aap-ay bujhaa-ay — the Guru Himself gives the understanding. Not earned, not developed through practice — given. The understanding that the Guru imparts is not transmissible by any other means. It is a direct transmission, not a curriculum.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever received an understanding from a teacher or person that you could not have arrived at on your own — that was genuinely given, not figured out? What was that like?
