Those who serve the True Teacher obtain the treasure of the Name. Deep within, they are soaked with the Essence of the Lord, and the egotistical pride of the mind is subdued.
The heart-lotus blossoms open. Their minds become pure. They merge in the True One.
Service here doesn't mean following orders. It means full engagement — bringing all of yourself to the relationship with the teaching.
Sevā (service) in Gurmat is not servility — it is the complete engagement of the self in something worthy of that engagement. The Guru's sevā subdues ahankar (ego-pride) not through suppression but through reorientation: when your whole attention is on the teaching, the ego has nothing left to maintain.
The heart-lotus (hirdai kamal) blossoms — the image of the lotus opening appears throughout Gurbani as the opening of the soul to divine presence. It blooms when the conditions are right, not through will but through light.
What does it feel like to be fully engaged in something worthy of your best attention — completely in it, not monitoring yourself? What opens up in those moments?
