In plain words

Whoever has found it, has done so in the Sat Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Through perfect good fortune, such balanced detachment is attained.

The self-willed manmukhs wander around lost. They do not know the True Teacher. They are inwardly attached to egotism.

O Nanak, those tuned to the Word are dyed in the color of the Lord's Name. Without loving awe of the One, how could that color stay?

Balanced detachment is not achieved alone — it is found in the company of those who have found it.
The deeper layer

Guru Amar Das ends by saying this inner freedom is found in good company, not alone.

Jin kinai paa-i-aa saadhsangtee means whoever found it found it in the saadhsangat, the company of the holy. Poorai bhaag bairaag means by perfect good fortune they found balanced freedom. Guru Amar Das often stressed that the community matters. We are not meant to do this alone.

The manmukh, who follows only their own wants, is different. Manmukh fireh na jaaneh satgur means they wander and do not know the True Guru. Ha-umai andar laag means they are stuck to their own ego inside. The gurmukh has two kinds of help: the Guru and the good company.

Naanak sabad ratay har naam rangaa-ay means those tuned to the Word are dyed in the color of the Name. Bin bhai kayhee laag asks: without loving awe of the One, how could that color stay? Bhai here means deep respect, not being scared.

Think of dyeing a T-shirt. The color only stays if it is set properly. Loving awe is what sets the color.

A Question to Sit With

What does 'spiritual community' mean to you? Do you have one? What would it look like to build one if you don't?
