In plain words

O my mind — become Gurmukh and meditate on the Lord.

The Word of the Teacher's teaching abides within the mind, and the body and mind become pure.

You don't need to be clean to begin the practice — the practice is what cleans you.
The deeper layer

This one says: turn to the Guru, remember the One, and you become clean inside.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad.

It gives the steps in order. Become Gurmukh, one who faces the Guru. Remember the One. Then gur kaa sabad man vasai — the Guru's Word comes to live in the mind. And man tan nirmal ho-ay — body and mind become clean.

Notice the order. The cleaning comes after the practice, not before. You don't have to be clean to begin. The practice is what cleans. It's like a bath. Nobody waits to be clean before stepping in.

So start where you are. You don't have to wait until you feel good enough.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something you're waiting to be 'ready' for before you begin? What if you started as you are, and let the doing be what prepares you?
