Not by Words but by Rooting Out the Ego

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
bhaa-ee ray gurmukh boojhai ko-ay.
O Siblings of Destiny, one who becomes Gurmukh and understands this is very rare.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਖੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin boojhay karam kamaavnay janam padaarath kho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
To act without understanding is to lose the treasure of this human life. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

O Siblings of Destiny — the Lord is not found through words alone.

The ego must be rooted out from within. And through the Guru's teachings, the ego-self is eradicated.

All the words in the world don't substitute for the one transformation that matters.

Words point toward the divine — but the ego must go before the pointer becomes the arrived-at.
The deeper layer

The rahao cuts through the opening paradox: yes, devotees speak — but the divine is not found through words alone. Haumai (ego) must be khoe (rooted out, lost) from within.

This is the distinction between speaking about the divine and being transformed by encounter with the divine. Words can point; only the eradication of ego allows the encounter.

A Question to Sit With

What is the difference between knowing something intellectually and being changed by it? Can you think of something you thought you understood, and then actually understood differently later?
