Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Without the Name, everyone is unhappy. Pulled two ways, they are lost.
Without Him, I can't feel alive even for a moment. My nights pass in sadness.
Wandering in doubt, those who are blind inside come and go, again and again.
When God Himself looks with grace, He brings us into Himself.
This verse says life without the Name feels empty, and the way out is God's kind glance.
Vin naavai sabh dumnee — without the Name, everyone is unhappy. Doojai bhaa-ay khu-aa-ay — pulled by doojaa bhaa-o, the love of "a second thing" instead of the One, they get lost.
Tis bin gharhee na jeevdee — without Him, I can't feel alive even for a moment. Dukhee rain vihaa-ay — the night of life passes sadly. This is the voice of someone who misses the One deeply, the way you miss your best friend when they move far away. It is longing, and longing is a form of love.
Bharam bhulaanaa anDhulaa fir fir aavai jaa-ay — wandering in doubt, blind inside, a person keeps coming and going, again and again.
Nadar karay parabh aapnee aapay la-ay milaa-ay — when God looks with nadar, His kind glance, He brings us into Himself.
This song also says the One hears and sees everything, and knows the secret in each heart. That is not meant to scare us. It means nothing real about us is hidden, so we don't have to pretend. Think of a grandma who can tell you're sad before you say a word. You don't have to put on a show for her. Under a gaze like that, only the real you makes sense.
If you knew with certainty that everything you thought and felt was fully known — not judged, just known — what would change? What would you stop hiding, even from yourself?
