He hears and sees everything. How can anyone deny Him?
Those who do wrong again and again are worn away by their own wrongdoing.
God's kind glance does not reach them. The self-willed do not understand.
Only those to whom He shows Himself can see the Lord. O Nanak, the Gurmukhs find Him.
This closing verse says the One hears and sees everything, and those who turn toward the Guru are the ones who find Him.
Sabh kichh sundaa vaykh-daa — He hears and sees everything. Ki-o mukar pa-i-aa jaa-ay — so how can anyone deny Him or pretend? The One knows what is in every heart. The mask we wear for others doesn't work here. Only the real thing is seen.
Paapo paap kamaavday paapay pacheh pachaa-ay — those who keep doing wrong are worn away by that very wrongdoing. Manmukh boojh na paa-ay — the manmukh, who follows only their own wants, does not understand.
Jis vaykhaalay so-ee vaykhai — only the ones He shows Himself to can see Him. Naanak gurmukh paa-ay — Nanak says the Gurmukh, who turns toward the Guru, finds Him.
This song also speaks of the fire of the Shabad, the Word, that burns away ego. It is not a fire that destroys. Think of a goldsmith heating gold. The heat burns off the dirt and leaves the gold shining. Ego is the dirt. The Word is the fire. What is left is your true, bright self. Those who remember the Name are welcomed and honored in the Lord's court.
What would you look like, at your most refined — your purest? Not perfect, but genuinely yourself without the ego's additions? How far away from that are you right now?
