The Shabad Is Realized When He Grants Grace

Having created the creation, He supports it and takes care of it.

The Word of the Guru's Shabad is realized, when He Himself bestows His Glance of Grace.

Those who are beautifully adorned with the Shabad in the Court of the True Lord

-those Gurmukhs are attuned to the True Word of the Shabad; the Creator unites them with Himself. ||2||

In plain words

The Shabad is truly realized only when He grants His Grace.

Through His Grace, the Name is implanted within and one always enjoys the Shabad.

Understanding the Shabad is not an intellectual achievement. It is a gift — given when the receiver is ready.

The Shabad's understanding is given when grace arrives — the practice prepares the ground; grace provides the rain.
The deeper layer

Shabad bujhai taa gur mili-aa — the Shabad is understood only when the Guru is met — which happens when grace is granted. The sequence is all grace-initiated.

Nit sevai — always enjoys the Shabad. Not occasionally, not when inspired, but always. This nit (constant) quality of the relationship is what produces the sahaj (natural equilibrium) that Guru Amar Das consistently describes as the fruit of genuine practice.

A Question to Sit With

What is the difference, in your experience, between understanding something intellectually and having it actually land — genuinely changing how you see? Can you describe the difference?
