The Name Is My House, Your Glance Is My Family

The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the pleasure of houses and mansions. Your Glance of Grace is my family, Lord.

The Hukam of Your Command is the pleasure of Your Will, Lord. To say anything else is far beyond anyone's reach.

O Nanak, the True King does not seek advice from anyone else in His decisions. ||4||

In plain words

The Name — this deep connection — is the pleasure of having a home and a family. Your glance of grace is what fills that home with warmth.

Your will — the way things are — is the pleasure of your presence. Saying anything else is just noise.

The real home is where the oneness lives. And that's inside you.

The real home is inside you — it goes with you everywhere, and it cannot be taken away.
The deeper layer

This pauri redefines home. In ancient India (and in many cultures today), home — grihastha — was the center of social, religious, and personal identity. Guru Nanak says: the Name is your real home. The divine glance (the sense of being held by something larger than yourself) is your real family.

This is both spiritually radical and practically compassionate: it means home is portable. You carry it. No physical location, no family structure, can take it from you.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a place feel like home to you? Is it the building, the people, the feeling? What's the most essential ingredient?
