Your Servant Begs to Serve Those in Your Service

Your servant begs to serve those who are enjoined to Your service.

The opportunity to work hard serving the Saadh Sangat is obtained, when the Divine Lord is pleased.

Everything is in the Hands of our Lord and Master; He Himself is the Doer of deeds.

I am a sacrifice to the True Guru, who fulfills all hopes and desires. ||3||

In plain words

Your servant asks to serve those who already serve You.

The chance to work hard for the holy company comes when the Divine Lord is pleased.

Everything is in the hands of our Lord and Master. He Himself does all that is done.

I give my whole self to the True Guru, who fulfills every hope.

The servant begs not for blessings but for the chance to serve the ones who serve — grace assigns even the service.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan asks for one thing: the chance to serve those who already serve the One.

Sayvaa mangai sayvko means the servant begs for service. He does not ask for gifts or to be rescued. He asks to serve the servants. Serving the servants is a humble way of loving that runs all through Sikh prayer.

Saadhoo sang maskatay toothai paavaa dayv means the chance to work hard for the saadhoo sang, the holy company, comes when the One is pleased. You do not hand yourself the job. It is a gift of grace.

Think of being picked to help set up for a big family celebration. It feels like an honor, not a chore.

Sabh kichh vasgat saahibai means everything is in the Master's hands. Satgur kai balihaarnai means I give my whole self to the True Guru, who fills every hope.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever experienced serving someone as a form of receiving? Where the serving itself gave you something? What was that like?
